Drew Llewelyn ACS

Drew joined the Society in 1993 and it is thought that when he was Accredited on 17 September 1995, it was the first for a video cameraman, leading the way for many of his contemporaries to follow.

He was blessed with a “great eye”, a wonderful temperament and a fantastic smile, and to be in Drew’s company particularly on set was a joy.

He was the recipient of numerous ACS Awards for his insightful cinematography, with nearly all of his projects also being Directed and Edited by Drew Llewelyn ACS. He was quite a filmmaker, and a great bloke.

With well over 30 years experience as a cinematographer, filming Summer and Winter Olympics, triathlons, surfing, world athletics and swimming championships. Drew specialised in Documentaries, Network programs, Broadcast; lifestyle shows, training videos, event coverage, promotional material, documentary series, television commercials, reality television such was his level of expertise. To sit and watch Drew’s catalogue of work would take an enormous amount of time, as he was prodigious and always in demand.

Truth be known, like all of us Drew loved shooting, loved his eye at the viewfinder and his place behind the camera, squinting into the sun and thinking of a way to make the shot better in order to keep his family fed and the mortgage paid.

Drew was a cinematographer and a man who I can happily say was a friend to many, who will be fondly remembered and forever missed.
