Ted Taylor ACS 1918 – 25th September 2014

Ted Taylor, ACS Accredited Member number #6, passed away 25 September 2014 at the age of 96.

He was never an ‘old man’. He remained mentally alert, politically activeand engaged with his surroundings right to the end. He never looked back, he only talked in the here and now and was an amazing inspiration to his family and friends.

He is survived by 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Brian Taylor, Son

Dear Brian,

Thank you for letting us know about Ted’s passing.

I can tell you that I worked as a camera assistant, under Ted’s leadership, for five years approx ’62-’67, in the camera department at Artransa Park Studios, amongst three assistants and four cinematographers. I owe much of my success in the film industry to Ted’s inspiration, laconic sense of humour and incredible ability both with the camera and as a mentor to those of us lucky to come under his wing.

It was wonderful to meet him again, a few years ago, when he joined us at an ACS Awards ceremony to receive his Hall of Fame certification.

Above left is a photo I have from the period, which shows Ted on camera with me as camera assistant, on a television commercial set at Artransa.

I can also tell you that the actual camera we were using has been on display at the recently developed ACS National Headquarters in Sydney.

I’m sure you & your family are undergoing a period of sad reflection at the loss of your father, but please be aware that he left a permanent mark on many of us in the industry… & 96…. Wow!

Kind regards,

David Wakeley ACS
