It is with great sadness that I have just been informed that Shirley Barrett, Director, Author, Friend, and beautiful person passed away yesterday with her family by her side. Chris her husband sent me am email just an hour ago. She had been battling breast cancer for about 5 years. My thoughts and prayers are very much with him and their daughters Sabrina and Emmeline. Shirley showed me and encouraged me to film TV like cinema and be brave about it. Something I have carried forward to this day. She was doing it long before Netflix thought about it! She was a very talented Director, with a great sense of humour and a joy to work with. I shall miss her very much. I only have one or two photos of her working with me on “A Place to Call Home”, I wish I had more. God Bless you Shirley and rest in Peace.
