VALE – Chris Kennedy 1 December 1948 – 27 August 2013

It is with great sadness I advise that Director Chris Kennedy died suddenly on August 27, after suffering a heart attack.

Chris has written, directed and produced four feature films. His best known movie “Doing time for Patsy Cline” (Cinematographer: Andrew Lesnie ACS ASC) opened the Sydney Film Festival, won the Australian Writer’s Guild Award for best original film script, and won the San Diego Film Festival Award for best original screenplay. It won three Film Critics Circle of Australia awards and received 10 AFI nominations including Best Film.

His other films were “This Won’t Hurt a Bit”, “Glass” and “A Man’s Gotta Do” which won the audience vote Zenith Award at the Montreal Film Festival.

Chris has twice received the AFI nominations for best original screenplay, and numerous other writing and filmmaking awards, both here at home and overseas.

He will be missed by all those who had the opportunity to work alongside him, and the ACS would like to pass on our sincere condolences to his family at this very sad time.
