Dion Beebe ACS ASC

Dion Beebe was born in Brisbane, Australia and spent much of his childhood in Cape Town, South Africa before moving back to Sydney to study film at AFTRS. Dion’s diverse body of work spans the last three decades in numerous genres and categories of the moving image.

He was first nominated for an Academy Award for Achievement in Cinematography for Rob Marshall’s “Chicago” and later went on to win the Oscar for his work on “Memoirs of a Geisha”. He is a two times BAFTA Award winner for Best Cinematography (“Memoirs of a Geisha” and “Collateral”) and winner of the American Society of Cinematographers Award also for “Memoirs of a Geisha”.

In Australia he has won eight ACS Gold Tripod Awards and the ACS International Award. He is the recipient of four Australian Film Institute Awards including the AFI’s Byron Kennedy Award.

Over the years he has consistently partnered with director Rob Marshall and collaborated on a diverse range of projects with directors Jane Campion, Michael Mann, Ang Lee, Michael Bay, Martin Campbell, Doug Liman and Niki Caro among many others.

Dion is also highly prolific in the world of music videos and commercials, having shot projects for Beyonce, Rihanna, Lana Del Rey, Arctic Monkeys and Tony Bennett as well as shooting award winning spots for brands such as Burberry, Guinness, Apple, Victoria’s Secret, and BMW.

In 2019 Dion returned home to Australia to shoot “I Am Woman” with his wife and Director, Unjoo Moon and is due to shoot “The Little Mermaid” for Disney.

Dion Beebe gives freely of himself to young and emerging filmmakers and he has on numerous occasions mentored and encouraged ACS members in order to assist with their career pathways.
