ARRI Australia

ARRI Australia/New Zealand is part of the ARRI Group, the world's largest manufacturer and distributor of motion picture camera and lighting equipment, celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2017. As many ACS members will know ARRI Australia is a sponsor of the Society and has been a great supporter for many years. More recently ARRI has also increased its support for ACS colleagues across the Tasman in the NZCS.

The team at ARRI ANZ comprises Brett Smith (General Manager), Rey Adia (Senior Service Engineer), Melaney Yeates (Senior Camera Service Engineer), Sean Dooley (Sales Manager) Molly Haddon (Technical Sales Adviser) and accountant, Joanne Schiffler.

The engineering team provides warranty and general service for ARRI cameras, lenses, wireless camera control system, camera stabilisers, camera accessories, LED, HMI and Tungsten lighting for Australia and New Zealand. ARRI Australia also provides spare parts, demo and test equipment on site as well as a dedicated lens test room and lens calibration equipment from Zeiss and Chrosziel. Rey and Mel also offer camera diagnostic and certification services for Alexa, Amira and Alexa Mini cameras to confirm their value as customers upgrade. Digital intermediate (film laser and scanner system) service is managed by ARRI ASIA (HK) ARRI Australia’s East-Asia-Pacific (EAP) partner.
ARRI’s paid trainee program, run in conjunction with cinematography schools, provides focussed ARRI product experience with exposure to industry personnel and time-flexibility so they can both study and work freelance in their chosen field.

ARRI now has a fully active showroom in its Sydney HQ, with all camera models, wireless systems and stabiliser products able to be evaluated any time of the day, and also available for interstate roadshows and demonstrations. In addition to the hardware, ARRI personnel from Australia, the US, Europe and Asia, visit regularly to gain product feedback from local customers and ensure the ARRI Group’s international information pool shares its knowledge with Australasians.
Currently ARRI Australia has over 500 clients using its products with more than 200 x ARRI ALEXA XT and SXT, AMIRA documentary cameras, and the industry’s most popular drama, commercial and feature film camera, the Alexa Mini. ARRI’s ECS & PCA family of wireless and manual lens controllers provide total focus, iris and zoom control as well as full lens data transfer via ARRI’s LDS lens data protocol. They include the WCU-4 and SXU-1 wireless lens motor controllers running our cforce plus, cforce mini, and CLM range of lightweight and high torque motors. A newcomer to ARRI’s portfolio is the Trinity, Maxima and Artemis range of camera stabilisers, which provide the first hybrid electronic and mechanical systems for professional cinema digital cameras up to 30kg.
Throughout its 100-year history, ARRI has been associated with constant innovation and revolutionary technologies. From the legendary ARRIFLEX 35 - the first motion picture camera with a reflex mirror shutter, to the ALEXA SXT-W, which features wireless video, wireless lens control and wireless function control, thus making it the most advanced digital cinema camera in terms of image quality and image control.

In its 100th year ARRI continues to boast Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences plaudits for its own technology awards as well as for being the camera of a choice for Cannes and Academy Best Cinematography awards. In recent years, the focus has been on creating a suite of complementary accessories and smooth digital workflow that ensures data and image capture, edit, VFX and distribution is seamless and is delivered in scalable formats to suit every budget and type of production from broadcast to Hollywood blockbuster cinema release.
ARRI’s commitment to the Australian and New Zealand cinema and TV industries amplifies the ARRI group’s passionate belief in research and development and total industry immersion. The result is more than 1300 employees worldwide working passionately alongside societies like the ACS to deliver on the wish list of the worlds’ leading, and just as importantly, aspiring cinematographers, AC’s, gaffers and grips, all demanding the highest quality equipment with a partner who continues to evolve and will be with them throughout their careers.
