June Drop In

Louie Gasparro & Eirini Alligiannis

Our guest at the June Drop In will be NSW committee member Eirini Alligiannis. Mentioned in the May issue of Focus was Eirini's win at the IMDb Independent Shorts Awards in LA with her documentary short "Louie (KR.ONE) Gasparro 5POINTZ". Eirini has just returned from London where she followed her LA success with the Staff Choice Award at the prestigious Oxford International Film Festival and, adding to those awards, an Award of Merit from the Accolade Global Film Competition.

Shot in Queens, New York the film follows graffiti artist Louie Gasparro and how his love for graffiti was rekindled at the legendary 5Pointz graffiti mecca in Long Island City, New York.

With a Diploma in Fine Arts majoring in Black and White Photography Eirini has worked on several independent films both as a cinematographer and as a photographer and her stills have been exhibited in Sydney, New York, and Paris. Eirini will give us an insight into her award winning film and discuss her cinematography and photography experiences. Her presentation will include our regular audience Q&A.

Members, sponsors and their guests are invited to ACS HQ (address below) on Thursday 21st June. Doors will be open, as usual, from 6pm.

Qantas Approval to Carry

Members should be aware that, additional to the 2018 Qantas 10-160wh Approval to Carry letter, recent information from the Qantas Dangerous Goods Group has advised the ACS that the LightPro V-lock batteries labelled "160wh", sold by Dragon Image Pty Ltd, currently in circulation are, in fact, 162wh, as tested by CASA, and as such will not be permitted to be carried on Qantas aircraft in any form. Dragon Image have been in touch with the manufacturer and all future sales will be of 158wh.

VALE : Susan Brown (Whitter)

In loving memory of Susan Brown (Whitter) who passed away Wednesday 13th June.

Susan's name is synonymous with food styling, being a leading Food Stylist in Australia for decades.

While studying at East Sydney Technical College for a Home Economics Certificate, Susan was hand picked by Margaret Fulton to be her assistant at Woman's Day Magazine where Margaret was the Food Editor.
She started her freelance career working with good friend Janice Baker on the Complete Book of Baking for Lansdown Press photographed by Ray Joyce and from there it was then a natural progression, for someone as dedicated and passionate about food as Susan, into live action in the late 1980s.
Over the decades of live action television commercials, Susan continued her work on stills shoots, cookbooks, editorials and days on the occasional feature film. Susan retired from the film industry in August of 2017.

Susan is survived by her much loved family; husband Mark, children Madeleine and Michael and her grand children.

Susan's funeral details are:

Friday 22nd June 2018
12:30pm
East Chapel
Northern Suburbs Crematorium

In lieu of flowers, Susan and Mark have requested that donations be made to:
Blue Knot Foundation - for survivors of childhood trauma and abuse.
